Sunscreen is an absolute must in our daily facial routine. It is also essential to re-apply throughout the day, even when wearing makeup. Remember that photoprotection is effective when used correctly: applying the appropriate amount, applying it uniformly, and renewing it throughout the day (every two hours).

In this post, we want to discuss some of the most common questions about combining sun protection with makeup, such as when and how to apply it, how to combine the two, etc.

When and how to apply our sun protection if we are going to wear makeup?

As a general rule, sun protection is the last step in the facial routine. If we are wearing makeup, it should be applied after the sun protection, once it has settled on the skin.

Can makeup be mixed with sun protection?

It is not recommended to mix your sun protection with another product (makeup, moisturiser or other cream) in the same application, as we tend to then apply less sunscreen, reducing the effectiveness of its protection.

We recommend that you apply your photoprotection independently. That is, include your sun care in your morning facial care routine as the final step. We recommend the use of a high protection factor, and this should not be replaced with other products that include protection, whether makeup or creams.

Should I reapply sunscreen every 2 hours, even if I have makeup on?

Reapplying the sun protection is necessary, even when wearing makeup. Keeping this mantra in mind is essential, and especially now in summer, which is the time of year when we spend the most time away from home or the office, and our sun exposure increases significantly.

What options are there to help with reapplication?

To apply sunscreen on top of makeup, you could use a sun mist, which you can carry with you to protect your skin during the day in a practical way, leaving your makeup intact.  This is how mesoprotech® antiaging facial sun mist works. It is an SPF 50+ anti-ageing facial mist with a fresh, ultra-light texture that goes on evenly on the skin with not need to rub in. In addition, using this mist offers extra value to our routine, as we are not only maintaining our effective sun protection, but also nourishing our skin and offering anti-ageing properties.

You can also choose specific sunscreens for the most delicate and sensitive areas, such as around the eyes and lips, scars and tattoos. Stick sunscreens are very easy to apply, and their practical format makes them easy to re-apply anytime, anywhere. The mesoprotech® sun protective repairing stick is invisible and its application is excellent, which allows you to use it on top of makeup.

Sunscreen with a tint, an alternative to makeup?

On the other hand, we could try a sunscreen with added colour alongside a high protection factor, such as mesoprotech® melan 130 pigment control, offering very high sun protection with colour to provide an imperceptible natural tone for your skin. Furthermore, it helps to regulate melanin synthesis by offering a preventative anti-spot action.
